Choosing the <noindex>right auto car insurance</noindex> is a matter of looking around, asking friends and making sure to qualify for every discount available. It’s also crucial to ensure to get the right kind of auto insurance.

Individuals who have just bought a new vehicle or have a car that is not paid for need to opt for an insurance policy rider which covers the replacement costs of the vehicle or pays the automobile off in full in the event that the vehicle is totaled, this is called GAP insurance.

Almost all auto insurance policies pay the amount of the car is worth on the day that it is damaged, the car’s Actual Cash Value or ACV, not necessarily the amount that is still owed on it.

A lot of car financiers will offer this kind of rider as part of the financing option, but auto owners also need to determine before signing the financing offer if they can get the same service from their standard insurance company. Generally speaking, dealing with your regular insurance agency will mean that it costs less.

Consumers buying auto insurance for the first time will also need to determine which insurance they need. For vehicle that is financed, full coverage insurance will be needed. This type of car insurance will pay the amount the car is worth, minus the deductible, after the vehicle had been damaged, it doesn’t matter who is at fault for the damage.

After you have determined what your auto insurance needs will be, it is important to ask around to find the right company and agent to suit your needs. Price needs to be a consideration, but it’s also advisable to look at their reputation for handling claims promptly.

A few insurance agencies also offer discounts for multi-policies held by the same person, so think about having your home or life insurance through the same company as your auto insurance.

He has additional information on <noindex>used cars for sale by owners</noindex> tips you may be interested in reading!

You will want to use a finishing compound of some sort if you’re wanting to be sure the floor that is in your garage will be able to resist oil, acid, and grease. These products have the ability to protect a concrete garage floor, sometimes for decades. These compounds exist to protect the floor in case of any liquid spillage that occurs throughout the years. If not for a finish of some sort, any concrete garage floor will certainly become unattractive through stains and cracks.

Epoxy Garage Floor Paint: The Most Popular Finish

Epoxy garage floor paint is probably the most used compound for these purposes. Your garage flooring will look great for a long time with an epoxy garage floor coating. Although there are other garage floor finishes on the market, you will probably want to go with one of the epoxy garage floor coatings if you’re wanting the best protection.

Not All Garage Floor Finishes Are Easy To Install

Unfortunately, epoxy is one of the more difficult garage floor finishes to apply. Just mixing it is no small job, and getting it evenly brushed on larger garage floors is a definite chore. There are many tricks that professionals use to make such installs go smoothly, preventing problems from showing up in the future. Sometimes it really does make sense to consider professionals when it comes to applying a finish, especially with epoxy coatings.

Recent Garage Floor Finishes Install Easier Than Previous Ones

In comparison to recent decades, though, garage floor finishes have become easier and simpler to install for the average homeowner. Some of the more popular compounds are specifically designed with the homeowner in mind and, due to this, installations are not nearly as difficult. These newer garage floor finishes are a result of much more competition, in addition to the reduction in prices of garage floor coverings like tiles and mats which are much easier for your average homeowner to install on their own.

No Matter What, It’s Still A Lot Of Work

All of that being considered, it’s still not the easiest job to do. There are still time constraints, and the floor must be very clean before you even start. Etching is always a good idea before applying any concrete coating, so be sure to investigate that option as well. Some epoxy garage floor paint kits even come with etching fluid, as well as instructions on how to use it. Some of these etching fluids even clean the concrete at the same time.

Most people apply epoxy garage floor paint because they want to be sure that their concrete garage floor will be protected. It looks really nice, and makes you happy to be in your garage. I bet you never thought garage flooring could brighten your day so much! But then, it happens. A tool falls (insert slow motion footage), slams into the epoxy garage floor coating, leaving a dent and sending a chip of epoxy flying. Thankfully, repairing cracks and chips on epoxy garage floors isn’t very difficult.

Preparing An Epoxy Garage Floor Coating To Be Repaired

The first thing you need to do is clean the area that needs to be prepared. You’ll want to get rid of dirt, but there will also likely be some sort of grease or oil, even if you don’t work on your car in your garage. Cars are funny like that, even brand new ones. If nothing else, tires track some pretty nasty stuff on to your garage floor coating. Luckily, since epoxy paint is designed to resist damage from chemicals, it’s also pretty good at taking a thorough cleaning. Although there are cleaners that are specifically designed for epoxy, dish soap works just as well, and is much easier on your hands. Don’t just clean the damage, either. Be sure to clean a wide area around the damaged spot as well.

We’re Going To Have To Amputate…

If you were to simply fill in the scar, scratch, crack, or whatever it is we’re repairing, it would be fairly obvious. Epoxy, like all paints, sort of change color over time, even if it’s not readily apparent, and simply “touching it up” would leave you with discoloration. With cars, you can fix this by using a scratch remover or clay bar and mixing the new paint with the old. However, epoxy paint’s resistance to damage sort of works against you in this case as it will also resist repairing scratches in this way. To address this, you’ll want to cut a square around the affected area, so that the area with the new paint is large enough that it won’t be so obvious. You can do this using a box cutter or a hobby knife of some sort. Go for about two inches around the scar, but bigger if you’re repairing an extremely obvious area, like the center of your garage floor. Once you’ve made the cut, use a blow dryer to heat the area so until the epoxy softens, then scrape it away with a paint scraper.

Fixing The Problem While Being Sure Not To Die

Now that you have an area that is mostly bare, you can repair the epoxy garage floor coating. Use the directions that are included with your epoxy kit, as well as some common sense regarding the fact that you’re working with a small area. Make sure that you also hit the edges where the affected area touches the old paint, bleeding over at least a little bit, to blend the new and old colors. Most importantly, make sure that your garage is ventilated any time that you are using an epoxy garage floor coating. Human lungs don’t care for epoxy fumes.

Avoiding Having To Do This Again

Stuff happens, but it’s not nearly as annoying if it happens to a garage floor mat. You can bet that if it happened once, it’s going to happen again. Every garage floor covering will protect your paint, and a small mat to place where you work is not terribly expensive. Next time a tool decides to bail, you will be really glad to see it bounce instead of crash. Epoxy garage floor coatings are very nice to look at, and can take a lot, but like car paint, sometimes they need a little extra protection.

Quikrete is, by far, the most popular of all garage floor coatings. Maybe this is due to the catchy name, or maybe they’ve just built a good reputation based on good products, but no one else even comes close. I suppose it just makes sense, then, that Quikrete Concrete Stain would often be looked at as the premier garage floor stain available.

Quikrete Makes Two Different Products For Staining Concrete

There’s not a particular product that is named “Quikrete Concrete Stain”. This can be kind of confusing since, if you do a search on Quikrete Concrete Stain, you’ll probably get one of these entries: Quikrete Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain, or Quikrete Etching Stain. Be careful which you pick, because these two products will result in different looks. For the time being, we’ll concentrate on the Quikrete Etching Stain. I’ll most likely talk about their Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain later on. Hey, stop whining, I’ll get around to it. And eat those peas, too.

Quikrete Says To Use Etching Stain For Your Garage Floor

Actually, to be more exact, Quikrete doesn’t recommend you use anything other than etching stain in your garage, and for good reason. Etching involves nothing short of melting the top layer of your concrete garage floor with acid so that you can scrape texture into it while, in this case, adding the stain as well. The result is garage flooring with improved grip for both car tires and human shoes or feet, as well as an old world, classic stone look.

Don’t Worry, Etching Isn’t All That Hard

As far as home improvement projects go, concrete etching is easy. In fact, Quikrete etching stain is actually a one-coat job. However, you do still have to apply a sealant, so you can forget about it being a truly one coat job. Even though, the application on the whole is a lot simpler than any epoxy garage floor paint, and you will have some protection after the sealant is on there, which is something that you can’t claim with stain alone. Don’t forget you also need to clean your garage floors, especially if you have any grease or oil stains, and you may want to use some sort of stain remover. Not really one coat, is it?

Staining Is Cheaper Than An Epoxy Garage Floor Coating, Right?

Usually, but not in this case. My guess would be that it’s due to the acids needed for the etching process, but a can of Quikrete Etching Stain will likely run you over $300, and that’s without cleaner or sealant. That’s pretty darn expensive, even moreso than some of the higher quality garage floor tiles. However, garage floor tile won’t make your concrete look like marble. Is it worth it? That depends entirely on you. If protecting your concrete is your top priority, I would say no, although once sealed, there is some protection. If your main goal is to make your concrete look different than any of the other garage floor finishes, though, then this will certainly do it.

If you have been researching garage floors, then I’m sure you know that when you add a finish of just about any kind to your flooring, it will protect the concrete garage floor, preventing stains from motor oils and pretty much any other chemicals. There are other benefits that are gained from a garage floor finish, too. If you are still up in the air about it, then read on.

Garage Floor Finishes Can Prevent Damage

There are a few different things that can damage your garage flooring, beyond the typical motor oil stains that you normally see. For one, if the concrete is left untreated, it can end up cracking due to exposure to the elements. Many people don’t realize that concrete, to be as durable as possible, needs to have some sort of seal. A good epoxy garage floor coating can take care of this for you, but even a garage floor covering like a rubber mat will be much better than nothing.

Many Garage Floor Finishes Increase Your Comfort As Well

Sometimes you’ll see features on the various garage floor coverings like “soft step,” or “anti-fatigue”. These are referring to you, the human element. Humans were not meant to walk around on concrete. We are, for the most part, best suited for grass and soil, which is much softer than your concrete garage floor could ever hope to be. Garage floor mats, tiles, and epoxy coatings add a bit of springiness to your floor, which will cut down on the jarring to your back and knees, especially if you do a lot of work in your garage. If you decide to go with one of the many garage floor coatings, be sure to check the features of the product before you purchase if you want a softer step, as not all of them offer this. The best thing on your body, especially if you do a lot of laying down under vehicles, would be a garage floor mat that is made for this purpose on top of whatever coating or covering you choose.

Garage Floor Finishes Can Also Improve Your Garage’s Lighting

No, we’re not talking about a glowing floor, though that would certainly be interesting. Regular old gray concrete is not at all good at reflecting light, and that’s a very good thing. Can you imagine the difficulty driving in the daytime on a road that reflected the light at you? However, in a garage, light being reflected instead of absorbed is a very good thing since it will brighten the entire room, making it easier to see things. If the plan is to work in your garage often, especially at night, make sure that your garage floor finish is designed to reflect and not absorb light. Black garage floor paint will obviously not help reflect light as well as silver garage floor tiles, for example.

A Garage Floor Finish Might Even Improve Your Mood… No, Really

Getting weirder and weirder, aren’t we? Seriously, though, think about it. How much nicer would a shiny new car look on shiny garage flooring as opposed to drab gray? I’m not in the statistics business, but I bet if you were to take a poll of the most depressing color out there, gray would rank pretty highly. More and more studies are coming out every day that point to color having far more of an effect on our psyche than we ever thought possible or even considered, and that’s just solid colors. Patterns can be exciting, too. Imagine how much nicer it would be for a car racing fan to work on his car on top of checkerboard garage floor tile? Working on a car can be frustrating. Do you really need your garage floor helping you be depressed?

There are two different mainstream types of garage floor tile: peel and stick tile, also known as self adhesive, and interlocking. When many people search for garage floor tiles, they are confused by this as manufacturers and resellers don’t always make it clear that there is a difference. Let’s take a look at peel and stick tile for garage floors, and see if it’s right for your needs.

Is Installing Peel And Stick Garage Floor Tile Difficult?

The installation for peel and stick garage floor tiles is as straightforward as it is obvious. You peel the backing off, then you stick them too the concrete garage floor. Of course, before you even begin the floor must be thoroughly cleaned. After all, you wouldn’t want your new tiles sticking to something other than the concrete like, say, dust. In fact, with the exception of an epoxy garage floor coating, no other solution takes as much cleaning to get right. One advantage over epoxy garage floor coatings, though, is that you can take as long as you like to complete the install, as long as you re-clean the floor before you begin sticking things to it again. Of course, as always, follow the directions with your particular product.

Buying Peel And Stick Garage Floor Tile

Make no mistake, this garage floor covering can be found, even if you don’t succeed at the first few retail outlets that you try. Trust me, they are out there somewhere, but they can be very hard to locate and, even when you do, you’re usually quite limited in selection. Due to the lack of supply, prices can be all over the board, and there seems to be no set size of garage that is accepted as normal. There are sets for 40 to 66 square foot garages, and you might pay just a bit over $100, or quite a lot over $300. Your first concern should be that the kit will provide you with ample garage floor tile to get your whole garage covered.

Durability Of Peel And Stick Garage Floor Tile

Of all of the various garage floor coverings, tile is probably the most durable. Because they stick to the concrete, these tiles have an extra bid of rigidity that other coverings lack. Also, since they do not move about, they don’t become damaged by friction as quickly as garage floor mats. Keep in mind, though, that much of the durability of garage floor tiles will depend on what they are made of, so consider what you plan to do in your garage before choosing.

Why Peel And Stick Garage Floor Tiles May Not Be Your Best Option

Peel and stick tiles don’t move. I mention this because the snap together tiles, or even a garage floor mat, are able to be moved around if needed. If your intention is to cover only a part of your concrete, then you should definitely consider using something that you can move. The end result will likely be cheaper, and the ability to move your covering around might end up saving a lot more damage to your concrete. Then, once you decide to cover the whole garage floor, there will already be a mat to put down when you need to protect your beautiful garage flooring.

Maybe you’re buying a home to remodel, and the garage flooring isn’t in the best of shape. Or maybe you didn’t realize that a concrete garage floor could crack and come apart until it was too late, and now there’s really no way to apply paint or any other type of coating. It could even be that your garage flooded or the ground shifted, damaging the concrete in a way that could be neither foreseen or prevented. Regardless, there are many times where a garage floor covering is either desired or necessary due to a damaged floor.

Can’t I Just Fix The Concrete?

Although there are ways to repair cracks in the concrete, and then paint over them, there is always the chance that the cracks will return. In fact, there is a very good chance that whatever caused them to appear in the first place will simply cause the same problem to happen again. Because of this, it is probably a better idea to skip garage floor paint altogether and go with a garage floor covering instead. A garage floor covering can be defined as a garage floor mat or tiles. Pretty much anything that doesn’t coat the original concrete, but instead adds something more. Both of these garage floor coverings can be used on damaged concrete, but to different degrees.

Garage Floor Tiles Only Work Sometimes

When using tiles on concrete with small cracks, you do not need to fill the cracks prior to installation. The reason for this is a result of the tiles’ ability to grip onto what they are secured to, therefore it does not matter whether or not there is a space upon which there not something to grip. As a matter of fact, because a garage floor tile isn’t really coating and actually reside in being physically independent, it is possible these tiles may be cooperative in preventing more cracks and the expansion of small cracks. As with all garage floor coverings, the conception is when the tiles a laid in place, the damage and any blemishes will be covered up and no longer visible. However, tiles are not never to be used when the concrete garage floor has been stained. If this happens, as time passes, those stains will expand and “sweat”, meaning that whatever sticky material that is underneath the tile will be immersed with the substance or chemical. The result of this is the tiles losing the grip they are designed to use, and your floor will not be in any greater format than before.

Garage Floor Mats Work All The Time

If the garage flooring is really messed up, you may have no choice but to use a garage floor mat. Luckily, mats are just as good at repelling chemicals as anything else, and they can look darn good while doing it. Unfortunately, however, you are just putting a band-aid on the problem, and it can eventually come back to bite you. If the concrete is really breaking up, it may end up with jagged corners which will tear the garage floor covering from underneath, especially when the mat is driven upon. You may not even notice just how bad the concrete is if it degrades further while covered with a mat. Should it become damaged, though, a garage floor mat can be pulled out and replaced with very little drama. That is, of course, if you can afford to purchase another one.

You May Not Have A Choice Of Garage Floor Covering

When you think about it, the decision of what to use to for your damaged concrete is uncomplicated: using either mats or tiles is possible is tiles can stick. But if they don’t for any reason, you are left with garage floor mats.

It’s that time of the year again. The icicles start appearing on the overhangs, snow is all over the ground, and you just noticed that your garage floor has a crack going down the center that’s about the size of the San Andreas fault. Why does this always seem to happen in the winter, do you ask?

A Concrete Garage Floor Will Absorb Any Liquid

Your concrete garage floor acts like a very, very slow sponge. Any liquid that comes in contact with it will be soaked up, albeit slowly. Those of us who have changed their own oil know this as the smallest bit of motor oil will create a tiny, but permanent stain. All concrete garage floors are the same, so you’re not alone here, either. Any garage flooring that has no cover will absorb water as well. Water doesn’t sound very threatening, I know, as it would be a clear stain, right? Unfortunately, when the temperature gets low enough, water does something that many other chemicals don’t do…

A Frigid Saboteur

It freezes. Although things generally contract when they become cold, water included, ice is obviously much more solid than water. Concrete is definitely much stronger than ice, of course, but having tiny pockets of ice throughout the concrete adds solidity where there generally is none. This makes the concrete garage floor a lot more rigid than it generally is. This rigidity is a very bad thing when the concrete begins to contract, as it naturally will when it becomes cold.

Moisture Is Always Incredibly Tenacious

“But I keep my garage door closed!” you say. Well, that doesn’t always matter. Humidity in the air can still get to your garage floor, even if your garage has been kept closed up. No garage is waterproof, so any garage floor is susceptible to the effects of moisture, even those protected by doors and walls. Not only that, but moisture can also creep in to the concrete from the sides and underneath, though that depends largely on your area, just how much rain you’ve had, how long water sat against your garage, and how high your water table is.

A Garage Floor Covering Can Prevent This!

Garage floor coverings, like tiles and mats, will help to protect the concrete, keeping cracks away. There really isn’t anything that can be done about moisture coming from the bottom and sides of the concrete slab, but generally that’s only a very small part of what needs to be addressed. For the most part, the moisture will come from above. If there’s not too much moisture coming from underneath, you can use an epoxy garage floor coating to seal the garage floor from moisture, which will almost completely keep it out. Although not as effective, a garage floor covering like tiles or a mat will also help since they can absorb a lot of moisture as well.

Will A Garage Floor Covering Help If I’m Absolutely Positive That Moisture Wasn’t To Blame?

Yes, it sure will. Aside from the sun heating it from above, which isn’t very likely if your garage is kept closed up, your garage floor’s main source of warmth comes from underneath. With a covering or coating of any kind, this warmth will be retained far more effectively, and keeping your garage floor warmer means keeping it from contracting, and hopefully cracking.
